We are delighted to welcome a new recruit to the Robert Gerrard team: Claire Matthews joined us on 1 August 2017 in the role of commercial account executive.
With Claire bringing us such a great deal of experience and array of expertise, these are definitely exciting times for Robert Gerrard. She’s going to be assisting the team with our commercial lines, as well as Lift Plan, our specialist and highly regarded cover plan for the lift and escalator industry.
Claire’s insurance background spans an impressive 25 years. It all began on a work placement when Claire was at school. She loved the experience so much that she made the decision there and then that insurance was the career for her, and she hasn’t looked back since.
Whilst she has particular expertise in motor fleet and motor trade cover, Claire’s knowledge extends much further across both commercial and personal lines.
Taking Care of Business
We particularly like Claire’s approach to managing the entire scope of insurance requirements for a business. Her clients have, over the years, trusted her to take care of all their cover needs, from vehicle fleet and premises through to personnel, directors and officers and liability and indemnity. “It provides continuity,” she says, “And gives me the chance to develop a genuine understanding of the individual needs of their business and the people that work in it.” Many of Claire’s past clients have also entrusted her to handle their personal cover needs: we think it’s beneficial that her knowledge extends full spectrum.
Competition in the insurance business has always been challenging, but Claire says as long as you can forge strong relationships with insurance providers, you should be in a good position to negotiate on behalf of your clients. Claire’s track record with client loyalty is testament to this. “If you can demonstrate that you always do your best in all respects for your clients, both on price and service, then you stand a better chance of seeing that relationship continue.”
Claire spent part of her career in underwriting. With a view from both sides of the insurance industry, she’s able to lend a unique level of understanding of how decisions on cover are made, which we know will prove helpful to both clients and the rest of the Robert Gerrard team.
We were happy to hear that Claire, having previously lived in Chingford for a number of years, was aware of the Robert Gerrard name and reputation. “I’d heard such good things about Robert Gerrard”, she commented, “So when the position came up, I jumped at the chance to work for such a respected broker.”
Enjoying a Friendly, Helpful Atmosphere
Claire says she particularly enjoys the friendly, helpful atmosphere that’s at the heart of the Robert Gerrard way of working, as it matches her own approach. She’s also just as anti-jargon as the rest of us. “I don’t see the point in 40 pages of small print that no one will read,” she says. “I like to explain everything clearly, and also to be upfront and honest about what is and what is not covered.”
We can tell already that Claire shares our passion for doing whatever is possible to deal with clients’ queries and concerns, and to do so in a timely fashion. She’s very thoughtful and accurate in the way she works; friendly yet professional.
Running, Baking, Sewing Keepsakes… and Camper-vanning!
Away from work, Claire is a keen fundraiser for Cancer Research. A dab hand at anything arty-crafty, she tops up her charity run sponsorship funds by hand-sewing keepsakes and baking cakes. We’re looking forward to seeing those here in the office!
Claire is also partial to a spot of travelling. In her late twenties, she took to a VW campervan and set off around Europe for ten months. These days though it’s more hotel than motorhome, although India is well and truly on her destination wish list for a ‘different type of travel experience’.
