A Warm Welcome to Mark Bayford

We’re delighted to welcome a new member to the Robert Gerrard team: Mark Bayford joined us on 27 October 2014 as a commercial account executive.

Exciting times for us as Mark brings with him substantial commercial insurance experience as well as expertise in two niche areas of insurance, both of which we are looking forward to developing over the coming months.

Previously a commercial insurance consultant at Moffat Saunders, Mark worked closely with business clients, taking responsibility for their commercial insurance portfolios. And it was during his time there, and at his previous managerial role at Knight Insurance, where he started to build up his specialist knowledge in the area of barristers’ chambers insurance. This knowledge continued to develop for some 15 years.

Now, with an in-depth understanding of the particular and complex needs of barristers’ chambers built up over a decade and a half, Mark is currently arranging a specialist scheme with an A-listed insurer to expand the Robert Gerrard offering into this area.

The scheme will allow chambers to enjoy a comprehensive, specially tailored policy across all their locations, international included. And importantly, it will be warranty-free. Mark will also be able to call upon the expertise of the personal lines experts on the Robert Gerrard team to take care of barristers’ high value personal insurance needs, with a portfolio covering everything from jewellery and fine art to holiday homes and high performance cars.

Japanese Manufacturing Sector Insurance

Another area where Mark has particular expertise is the Japanese tech manufacturing sector. Again this is an area of insurance where Mark has 15 years’ experience and importantly for clients, has gained great awareness of the Japanese business culture, well known for its formality and sensitivity.

Many of the businesses Mark has dealt with in this sector have employed 200+ staff, so his experience covers more substantial commercial and employment needs. He also realises the importance in Japanese business culture of a willingness to learn, and so always makes a point of getting to know a company like the back of his hand so he can ensure fully tailored cover is delivered.

Sport and mountain bikeRacing the Sun

Outside of work, Mark backs charities such as Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and the Meningitis Trust. And the backing is far from sofa-based: he’s run marathons and taken part in Race the Sun, a triathlon-style adventure challenge that involves cycling, climbing and canoeing, starting out just before sunrise and aiming to finish before the sun sets. Brilliant!
